1. What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?
It really depends where you look for the information. Some literature suggests there is no fine line between Counselling and Psychotherapy.

On the other side some publications will argue that the psychotherapist has more than two years training, will look deeper into the issues and therapy is more organised and longer than one conducted with a counsellor. For some more information on this subject you can look up at:

2. How many sessions will I need?
Individual Therapy
Each person is different, some clients are dealing with deep rooted problems, some experienced distress only recently – therefore each client requires a different number of sessions to resolve their issues. Please note that, my experience is that it takes a minimum of six sessions/weeks for the individual to start feeling the full benefits of the counselling.
Each individual session lasts 55 minutes.
Couples Therapy
Couples counselling usually last six to eight weeks and sessions can be organised weekly or fortnightly. Each session is usually one hour in duration.
Groups
The miscarriage support group might last between eight to twelve weeks, depending on the size of the group. Each session lasts approximately an hour and twenty minutes.
Choice Theory Focus Groups are usually scheduled for six to eight weeks. The sessions are held once a week for two hours including a 15 minutes break.
3. What happens at the first session?
You will be asked to fill in a questionnaire simply by ticking boxes. You can choose questions to be read out to you or you can tick them off yourself. You reserve the right to refuse the questionnaire with no need for an explanation. We would introduce ourselves to each other, talk about the confidentiality and make a plan for future sessions. Finely we will make a verbal contract on the agreed terms if you decide to continue with therapy. Based on the information provided, I will tailor the therapy to suit your needs.
4. Is Counselling covered by my medical card?
Private Counselling and Psychotherapy is currently not covered by medical cards. Your GP will be able to provide you with more information on this subject.
5. How do I make an appointment?
Please call 086 89 39 264. If your call is not answered, please leave a message providing your name and phone number and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
